E42Vectors01 – Using vector and list collections to make your code safer and simpler.
July 7, 2019 @ 3:30 pm - 4:30 pm EDTPrepaid through Classes or Patreon
If you need a vector or list collection in C++, then you really should be using the vector and list classes in the Standard C++ Library. This will make your code safer by making it harder for an attacker to gain access through your code. You really don’t want to be the one responsible for writing insecure code that lets somebody install a virus because you tried to create your own collection.
Both a vector and a list are a type of collection. They let your code hold multiple objects and keep track of them. A game might need to keep track of all the inventory items a player has. A utility app might need to remember all the folders in your file system that it needs to process. Or a word processor needs to manage all the pages and paragraphs you type.
Using the standard vector and list classes makes your code more familiar to other developers. It becomes easier to understand your designs because other people can focus on what your code does instead of trying to figure out how your collections work.
This class will show you:
- How to create vectors and lists and add values.
- When to use a vector and when to use a list. There is no single right answer so you’ll learn how to choose the right option for your situation.
- How to add and remove items and work with your collection.
- How to use iterators to navigate through the items in your collections.
This is an online class that you can attend from anywhere. All you need is a good internet connection and your computer. It will help if you have a large monitor or even two monitors so that you can watch and follow along at the same time. Headphones or earbuds with a microphone are recommended to avoid echos.
This is a live class where you can ask questions if you like. Or you can listen and learn and follow along without asking anything if that makes you more comfortable.
We recommend that you plan to join a few minutes early to give yourself time to connect. Click the Venue, Virtual GoToMeeting, for details on how to join.
This is the reservation that you can attend as many times as you want once you purchase the class session. If there’s no button below to confirm the RSVP, then this class is not yet available. Classes are usually made available a month or so in advance.
